Victoria's Future Climate Tool

Quick Start

We are updating Victoria's Future Climate Tool (VCFT) and want your input.

Go to Engage Victoria to have your say on what you think about the current tool. Your input will help ensure the updated tool is fit for purpose and provides an intuitive user experience that meets your needs.

DEECA is also seeking volunteers to user-test the tool as it is being updated – you can submit an expression of interest (EOI) at Engage Victoria.

Register here to attend a webinar on Thursday 15 August at 11am. Surveys, submissions and EOIs close on Friday 6 September 2024.

Victoria's climate has changed in recent decades, becoming warmer and drier. These changes are expected to continue. Understanding what Victoria's climate may be like in the future, will help us to plan and adapt.

Victoria's Future Climate Tool provides access to the most recent climate model simulations of Victoria's future climate and indicators of climate-related hazards for both high and medium emissions. The tool is interactive, allowing you to view future climate information (including temperature, rainfall and heatwaves) as maps and charts for your local region and also enables you export climate data for use in your own spatial tools.

The tool will be useful for:

  • Risk practitioners
  • Environmental/sustainability officers
  • Strategic planners
  • Geospatial information system (GIS) users
  • Specialists managing programs, services and infrastructure

To explore different climate layers and scenarios for your area of interest, select from the Project Layers categories listed on the right-hand side of the screen. For help using the tool and to bring up the toolbar descriptions select the button. For more information about each of the layers select the button to the right of the layer heading. For advice on understanding the layers and outputs click the symbol. At the bottom of each of the selected layer options there is an opacity slide which will allow you to fade each layer to see through to the layer underneath. At the bottom of the layer panel you can choose to change the Map Base Layer to street or satellite view.

Please send any queries to climate.science@delwp.vic.gov.au
